At 10 years old, André knew he wanted to be a scientist, but living in a small town in rural Louisiana he didn’t have any role models to show him how to do that. Despite the odds being stacked against him, he has earned degrees from some of the nation’s top universities and is now an assistant professor at the University of Michigan studying monarch butterfly migration through their DNA.
